Comment
The passenger compartment of the Ateca remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and the passenger. SEAT showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the driver was good for all critical body areas and was good for the rear passenger except for the chest, protection of which was marginal. In the side barrier test, the side curtain airbag did not deploy as intended and, while dummy readings were good, the score for the head was penalised and protection for this part of the body was rated as adequate. The same penalty was applied in the side pole test, even though the airbag deployed correctly. Protection of the head and the chest was rated as adequate and dummy readings indicated good protection of all other body regions. Tests on the front seats and head restraints showed good protection against whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats showed that occupants would also be well protected in those positions. The Ateca has an autonomous emergency braking system as standard and tests showed it to be good at avoiding or mitigating low speed accidents where whiplash injuries are often caused.
